We get lots of teachers who write in asking us for help in finding funding opportunities for Cubelets. While there are a lot of prospects out there, it can be hard sometimes to know where to start and what to look for.

The idea of looking into a targeted grant is a good one. We’ve found that each state and individual districts all have different programs. For example, in Boulder County where Modular Robotics resides, teachers can find grants through the Boulder Valley School District Website. Contact your district to ask if they have a list of local grant resources!

We think STEMfinity.com has a wonderful grant guide. With a little bit of Google searching, you can find all sorts of great grant resources from writing guides to lists of resources other teachers have gathered. Bellow are a few other notable sites:

We’ve also had dozens of teachers work with their districts or PTOs to get a grant or targeted funding to add robots to their classes. This tactic has been very successful for many educators because they’re able to borrow success stories from other teachers, show a video, and point their PTOs, principals, or Ed Tech grant programs to our free lesson plans as an added value.

Another option is to think about running a fundraising campaign. We know of many teachers who have posted campaigns for their classes to add robots, create maker spaces, learn programming & pre-programming skills, or engage in integrated STEM learning. There are several sites that make this easy, including DigitalWish, GoFundMe, and DonorsChoose. Our favorites at Modular Robotics are Digital Wish and GoFundMe because you will receive the donations made whether or not you reach your funding goal. That said, we have seen many successfully funded campaigns through DonorsChoose since it is the most well-known of the three. If you choose to do a fundraising campaign, make sure you have a social media plan to help spread the word!
